The Client
Situated within the glamorous Riviera Maya in Mexico, Ikal del Mar (now Viceroy Riviera Maya) is a luxury jungle resort facing the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Eco-consciously designed, the space was transformed by Prohotel into an intimate 30 villa resort featuring private plunge pools within its luxury villas, a beachside restaurant specializing in Mediterranean and Mexican dishes, and a spa.
Challenge
Riviera Maya’s end‐to‐end beach resorts meant there was little room for yet another. Upon this realization, Prohotel was hired by a group of investors to create a unique concept that would stand out in a competitive market and shape the Ikal del Mar brand from initial design plans to final operations.
Strategy
The first stage was to conduct a marketing and feasibility analysis of the area after which financing could be secured. We worked with a trusted architect to develop a fresh vision on what was perceived as a challenging piece of land. The strategy followed with a pre‐opening sales and marketing campaign to capture the interest of the media.
Result
Ikal del Mar immediately experienced a high occupancy rate and was able to pre‐book reservations. Press coverage included a cover feature in Travel+Leisure and feature articles in Condé Nast Traveler, New York Times and Robb Report amongst other major publications. The success was reflected financially and Ikal del Mar was sold for the highest price-per-unit in the Riviera Maya and the second highest in Mexico.
