Sublime Samana and Hurricane Season

Sublime Samana Hotel & Residences prepares for Hurricane Maria

Two weeks ago, we were hit with Hurricane Irma and while it did not cause many damages, it still left our small town of Las Terrenas scattered with debris and uncertainty. Days after Irma, Tropical Storm Jose appeared on the radar threatening to become stronger and hit through the Caribbean. Fortunately, Jose continued on his way and left us alone.

This week we have another alert for incoming Hurricane Maria. Like the rest of the island, we are preparing to receive yet another hit. We have relocated our guests to Casas del XVI, our sister property in Santo Domingo. The process of boarding up the glass windows and doors of our luxury resort is in the works as well. Additionally, we’ve removed from our grounds objects, such as lawn chairs and tables, light enough to be picked up by the wind.

Because this has been our most active hurricane season in 80 years, we saw it necessary to share with our guests the safety precautions we take, including our hurricane season policy regarding your stay.

Cancellations

If a hurricane warning is issued by the US National Weather Center, any guests with reservations due to travel within 72 hours of the warning will be allowed to cancel their reservations with only a 50% penalty of the total stay.

Early departures

In the event of a hurricane threat, guests that are currently on property who wish to depart early, may do so without incurring an early departure penalty and will receive a resort credit2 for the total room stay of unused nights, valid for travel within 1 calendar year of original reserved dates. Guests wishing to use this option must reschedule their trip within 60 days following the storm. Space and rates are subject to availability. Black-out periods may apply.

Relocations

In the event of a hurricane, guests have the option to transfer their reservation to an alternate hotel destination that is not within the storm’s projected path. Rooms will be offered at the same rate based on availability, In the event that rates are lower at the relocating hotel, a credit for the difference will be issued, we cannot guarantee room category and we will not issue a refund stay if this option is used.

Reschedule

If guests wish to postpone their vacation and travel at a later date, Sublime Samana Hotel will issue a resort credit2 within a calendar year for total amount of room stay. Guests wishing to use this option must reschedule their trip within 60 days following the storm. No name changes allowed. Space and rates are subject to availability. Black-out periods may apply. Guests who wish to reschedule their reservation must directly contact the travel professional who booked their vacation.

  • Policy will go into effect once the US National Weather Center issues a hurricane warning to the area and the hurricane directly impacts Sublime Samana Hotel & Residences.
  • Resort Credit will be valid for travel within 1 calendar year of original reserved dates; it is nontransferable, nor redeemable for cash. Resort credit is valid for expenses at the hotel, not applicable for transfers or tours.

All other terms and conditions listed on certificate apply. This policy is for individual travel and groups booked through Tour Operators: it does not apply to groups booked directly with Sublime Samana Hotel. Groups contracted directly with Sublime Samana shall refer to their specific contract policies. Airline ticket holders are subject to Airlines’ policies and guidelines.

Policy may be subject to change or may be discontinued without notice.
